Lord Marksman and Vanadis : Anime Review

Plot : In a fantasy version of Europe, a war between enemy countries is brewing. One of these countries, Zhcted, has its seven regions ruled by War Maidens, known as Vanadis. Equipped with powerful dragon-carved weapons, Eleonora "Elen" Viltaria, one of the Vanadis, launches an invasion against their neighboring rival country of Brune. Eventually, Tigrevurmud "Tigre" Vorn, a young archer and an earl for Brune's region of Alsace, has his entire army decimated at Elen's hands. In a strange twist of events, Elen spares Tigre, and gives him the order, "Become mine!" What could be the meaning behind this new alliance?

Adapted from the light novel written by Tsukasa Kawaguchi, Madan no Ou to Vanadis is an epic adventure filled with complex war tactics and beautiful women. Trapped in a multinational conflict, Tigre and Elen are swept up in a war filled with dark secrets, conspiracies, and corruption.
Our Opinion :
First let’s talk about the positives -
  1. The story revolves around two people : Tigre and Eleonora. The initial plot was set perfectly where Tigre( Main Protagonist) is adamant to protect his region (Alsace) upon being captured by Eleonora.
  2. A wide variety of interesting cast ( including the seven war maidens - women chosen by a weapon called dragon gear)
  3. Plotting shown behind each war / attack in the anime is quite phenomenal. It is one of the reason which does not let us move away from our screens.
  4. The animation was pretty spot on because it successfully created the environment required for showing wars and similar stuff.

Now, let’s talk about the reasons for downfall of this anime -
  1. In spite of a strong plot, this anime lacks proper execution as we see a lot of unbearable pacing. I feel this anime should have been around 24-26 episodes so that it can give proper timing to important scenes.
  2. Character Development sucks badly. Except the two main characters, I felt every other character has been randomly added to the story. Not much thought given!!!
  3. Anime failed to create wow moments which in turn failed to create required hype for the anime.
Final Verdict : Overall it is a fine anime for one-time watch in spite of its shortcomings. People who like war and military tactics can definitely give this anime a try. Others might get disappointed but lot of boobs(in anime) might keep you motivated!!!
